Carbon Trust engagement tool

It’s always nice when you come across a website that helps make sense of the importance of carbon reduction, especially if it’s able to spell out just how much of a difference small changes can make. The Carbon Trust have a new microsite online, and it does a great job of communicating just how easy it is to make a difference. We’re pretty good at being carbon friendly here but I thought I’d give you a quick lowdown of how the toolkit works.

Firstly I did the virtual tour and was able to pick what we’re already doing to reduce our carbon impact and to look through some other suggestions they have for office workers. From your answers on the virtual tour, the site creates your very own carbon reducing action plan which includes an estimated amount of carbon you can save from sticking to your pledges. When you have completed this part, there’s an option to see how your carbon reduction pledge stacks up in comparison to a variety of metrics. Apparently my pledge will be equivalent to lighting an entire street for a year! It also tells you how many users have scored the same as you.

Secondly I completed a quiz and scored 8/10 (Carbon Hero apparently).  This was slightly addictive, and I’ll be going back next week to try and get full marks.

The toolkit also includes a function to send suggestions to your boss for making the office more carbon friendly.  Again thumbs up here to get employees to help their organisations to save energy.

This is a great toolkit which I feel should be passed on to spread awareness of saving energy and reducing carbon output by doing simple things. We spend so much time talking to CSR managers about how difficult it can be to drive engagement on sustainability, and this microsite does a great job of communicating that even the small things can make a huge difference when we all take a step in the same direction.

If you’d like to talk to us about how we’ve helped some of our clients change corporate attitudes to sustainability and set targets that’ll light up the company rather than just a street, then get in touch!

Most of all, remember to have fun completing it. Good luck!
